Welcome to Castle Clinic
You will have been referred by your dentist or doctor and they will have forwarded a referral letter with any relevant x-rays, CT Scans or blood results. Please ensure that you have a complete list of your medications and any other relevant documentation on the day of consultation. You can also email any records or information to the Castle Clinic prior to your consultation. After treatment, a discharge letter will be sent to your doctor/dentist detailing treatment undertaken and returning any hard copies of x-rays/scans.
X-Rays and Scans
We have the facilities to undertake dental x-rays, OPT and CBCT scans of the jaws and facial skeleton if required. We are also the first practice in U.K. and Ireland to acquire ‘X-Guide’ to allow real time 3d live navigation during dental implant surgery.
X-Rays CT scans Blood results X-Clip
Your dentist will usually forward any relevant soft copy (digital) x-rays by e-mail and post any hard copy (film) x-rays. Your hard copy x-ray will be scanned and returned to your dentist on completion of treatment. Please have all relevant blood results, reports and scans available on the day of consultation. Should you wish to forward any information by e-mail this will be added to your e-file patient record. Lists of medications can be forwarded by your doctor or pharmacy in advance.
The X-Clip is for 3d real time guided implant surgery and is fitted prior to the CBCT scan. The scan is taken with the X-Clip in-situ and you must bring the X-Clip back with you on the day of the guided implant surgery.
INR blood results can be faxed to the clinic or you can bring a written confirmation of the result on the day to the clinic that we will scan and return to you.

Post Wisdom Teeth Removal
You will be discharged with antibiotics and painkillers. Should you develop a rash, itch, nausea or swelling then stop taking the medication and contact the on-call number for further instruction.
Brush teeth two/three times daily and rinse gently twice daily with Corsodyl, Perio-kin or hot salty mouthwash for five seconds only avoiding smoking. A soft diet is advisable for one week post surgery. The swelling will take several days to subside post surgery and again this is normal.

Post Dental Implant Surgery
Some pain and swelling is normal post dental implant surgery. You will be issued with a prescription for analgesia (painkillers) and antibiotics, if appropriate.
You will have a contact number in your discharge pack in case of emergency. It is advisable to have a soft diet, eat on the opposite side and avoid excessive mouth rinsing and smoking. Brush teeth as normal. Our nurse will contact you day one post-operatively to check your progress and discuss oral hygiene measures again.
Post Sinus Lift
There will be very little pain usually. There is significant swelling with a ‘direct sinus lift’ – you will be prescribed anti-inflamatories to help reduce the swelling over two or three days. It is important to keep the surgical wounds clean – brushing teeth and using mouthwash, avoiding any forcible nose blowing for one month. Eat a soft diet on the opposite side if an option.
Please click on attached link for information on Post Sinus Lift.
Post Zygomatic Implants
It is normal to have swelling post surgical placement around the cheek bones and lower eye lids. Bruising around the eyes and upper cheeks is also not uncommon. This will take several days to resolve and the bruising will migrate to the lower face over several days.
Keep the surgical wounds clean using mouth wash and a water-pik. You will have been prescribed antibiotics and a mouthwash to use twice daily. It is important not to blow your nose forcibly for one month post surgery. Nasal bleeding or spotting is not uncommon post surgery and usually drys up after the first day or two. There is an emergency contact number in your discharge pack in the event of an emergency out of hours.

Patient Video Resources
Below are some videos that maybe helpful to patients and dentists regarding issues relating to oral surgery and dental implantology. The Smiletube.tv video shows the blended on-line training and ‘hands-on’ dental implant course run at the Castle Clinic Dalkey. On completion of the course candidates are illegible to sit the diploma in dental implantology at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. The ‘All-on-4’ video is very informative for patients wishing to explore treatment options to restore a dental arch.
